Recent Renewable Energy Sources Seminar
December 29, 2009 - On Saturday, 19 December 2009, AlexSB organized a seminar for “Electrical Power & Control” Section under the name of “Recent Renewable Energy Sources”. This Seminar was held in M2-Preparatory Building- Faculty of engineering.

“IEEE AlexSB serves Electronics & Communications Section more than other sections.” When this thought began to spread; AlexSB was there to prove that it does its best to provide sufficient activities to serve all Engineering fields and organized this seminar.

The seminar started at 4:45 PM with an introductory session to give the attendees a general idea of WHO WE ARE? & WHAT WE DO? All what you would want to know about IEEE & AlexSB was given, in 30 minutes, by Ahmed Ossama Abdien, IEEE AlexSB Volunteer.

Starting from 5:15 PM there was a 15 mins prayer break. After that it was time for the main session,”Recent Renewable Energy Sources” which all the attendees were looking forward to. Dr. Ahmed Kadry of Alexandria University was the speaker.

Dr. Ahmed Kadry started his talk with a question:”Why Renewable Energy?” He then moved on to talk about the global warming and climate change and how their influence threats the world. So what do we do? We have to take an action. As the world moves more towards Renewable Energy, there will be more environmental benefits. After that he talked about Wind; what is wind? Where does Wind Energy come from? Global and local winds, history of wind use, wind turbines, current wind energy utilization, wind farm selection and construction, what is largest wind farm either onshore or offshore? Dr. Ahmed Kadry, then showed the attendees some topologies and configurations. Finally he ended his talk with wind energy installation whether worldwide or here in Egypt. The seminar ended at 6:45 PM.

This may be our first Power based seminar, and hopefully not the last. We have set it as one of our goals to help and focus on the “Electrical Power & Control” section.
