Branch's Committees

Membership Development Committee:

The purpose of the Membership Committee is to attract new members, sustain continuing members, and encourage professional growth among all students. They are responsible for the overall promotion of membership, membership benefits and branch activities. They handle all aspects of membership, including invoicing, processing new, renewed memberships, and responding to member requests.

They also manage the development and maintenance of the IEEE AlexSB database. The overall goal is not just to increase numbers of members but also to make the AlexSB a representative, IEEE student branch. As a branch we try to provide our members opportunities to enhance their academic, professional, and social lives, we make sure that our members have the exposure to new technical advances in their fields.

Reporting and Publications Committee:
With the increasing events, meetings and branch publications throughout the branch's active years, the process of referring back to a decision once made or an innovative idea of publication tend to get more and more tedious. The Reporting and Publications committee's Vision is to insure proper documentation of all the meetings held by any Branch committee and highlight important outcomes of these meetings.

They also need to keep track of all publications, both printed or over the internet and possibly set standard forms for such publications. For the sake of further improving the branch activities, the publication committee is entrusted with the task to provide an honest view of all the branch activities organized by the AlexSB.

Graphics Committee:
The Graphics committee is responsible for everything related to Media like Posters, Videos, Wall magazines designs, and so on. The main goal of the committee is to enhance the outer look of the branch, in the eyes of members, non-members, other branches and worldwide. You would ask “Why worldwide? “. The answer will be that our branch is well-known among other branches especially in region 8.

This is due to large number of members, number of successful events and the fact that we are THE BIGGEST branch in Region 8 and the second largest WORLDWIDE! Therefore, some of our events may be published in the Region 8 magazine and surely our poster will be attached to the article, so the graphics committee portrays the Branch's image worldwide!

Public Relations – External Affairs Committee:

The Public Relations committee develops a plan to provide media, companies and VIP's with information about IEEE Alexandria SB and promotes branch events and activities in sponsorship and attendance. Public relations volunteers serve as spokespersons and manage the flow of information to the public (media, not students) for our branch events. They are effective communicators in print, person and on the phone.

Activities Committee:
The main goal of the activities committee is to bring people together and create interesting and useful events. A guiding principle of this committee is to make all graduate students feel welcome at these events and organize events that appeal to the diverse engineering population. Since one departments definition of useful may vary greatly from another's, the activities committee strongly encourages members to get involved and send their own ideas, making their own events happen.

The Activities Committee is divided into three subcommittees:

  • Seminars: A seminar is a lecture or presentation delivered to an audience on a particular topic. A seminar is frequently held at college or within the BA's conference rooms. The speakers come from different organizations as will be shown in the coming paragraphs. The seminars committee is responsible for coming up with new ideas and topics for upcoming seminars, choosing the speakers that have great knowledge and be a professional in desired field; they must also have very good communication skills. The committee must also identify the targeted audience; this determines who will be attracted to the seminar. It defines the number of potential attendees. Then they must set an appropriate date and the time for the seminar according to the targeted audiences free times and timetables.
  • Visits: Visits are considered as a vital activity in the branch because, they provide enormous potential benefits to students and complement the learning done at college. Educational visits help link the academic study to the real world and enlarge to students' capabilities to communicate and interact with, the industry and R&D technologies. There is great educational value in taking students out of the college to see the world at first hand, and that such experiences help to bring education to lifeEducational visits provide wonderful opportunities to extend young peoples` learningand understanding of the subject. Basically visits lead back to our main vision as a branch to promote public awareness and understanding of the engineering profession.
  • Courses: The Course Organization committee is responsible for finding out the most highly demanded courses to each of the electrical and computer engineering departments.
