Scientific research is a key element for maintaining a regularly developing civilization, and one of the main pillars that nations rely on to guarantee their own development and prosperity.

Motivated by this fact, and as a part of its own mission, IEEE Alexandria University student branch is adopting a program that targets raising the awareness of Egyptian students in general and engineering students in particular regarding the importance of scientific research specially for undergraduate students to start planning for their research career early enough, and get equipped with the suitable background and qualifications for that purpose.

“Let your mind shape your future” is the slogan IEEE AlexSB selected for its launched "Eureka!" research program. We chose this slogan as it has a hidden message to motivate students to believe in themselves and their abilities. The program aims at motivating undergraduates at all the academic years to get started with finding out the track in which they are willing to specialize in or just to learn more in any field they are interested in. IEEE AlexSB will help all undergraduates willing to join our program get in contact with professors specialized in the required fields through various session types, starting from the introductory session along with several technical and success stories’ sessions.

"Eureka!" research program is divided into three complementary episodes as shown below:

Episode 1: “Why Research?”

Episode 2: “Building Research Skills”

Episode 3: “IEEE AlexSB Research Competition”

The opening day of our program would be at the Great Hall, BACC

MIE is a University-Industry linkage program founded and organized by IEEE Egypt GOLD affinity group that aims at narrowing the gap between the academic community - including both research and educational sectors - and the industrial community.

Again we have launched the registration for annual membership. Like every year, the registration will be at Hall of Electrical Engineering Building from Monday, 28 November 2011 to Monday, 05 December 2011, from 12.00 pm till 01.30 pm and the fees are 175 EGP or $29 for undergraduate and graduate students .

Cables are not "just cables", electrical transmission can reach 25% of the cost of electric power, cable design is usually a complex procedure and has many aspects to look at, like power loss and isolation.

"ITW? What a strange name for an event! They couldn't have found a better name for it? What does it mean anyway?!"

These questions where floating in my head 3 years ago, when I first heard of ITW'09. And of course, the curious person that I am would never let it go! And so I thought "Registration time!"

3 days in the beginning of July was all what it took for me to realize that "Wow! Those people are dead serious!"

Beside the technical, the personal and the professional experience that seemed to be what the event is all about, one thing was for sure, I wanted to be one of "THEM".

I missed the deadline, Crap!

And here I'm once again sitting at the Great Hall at the BA attending ITW'10 and then the ex. Chairman, Amr Essam, said: "For those who want to apply as a volunteer please fill the spreadsheet at the shown link"

That was my lucky day!

An application, and an interview later, I'm now a member of the community I always dreamed to be a part of, My IEEE AlexSB…

          In ITW'09 I was a normal attendee. I was very excited as the sessions were amazing specially the session of Dr. Sanad and Mr.Mohamed Hamed. The organizers were so professional, helpful, and organized. I was encouraged by this event to be a volunteer in IEEE Alex SB.

         In interact'10 I was a guide (inside the hall) in fact it is an exhausting task and I think after the event the attendees wanted to kill me because of the famous guidance phrase "name tag please " but for me I really loved this task and in this event I felt that I am not only AlexSB volunteer but I am also a part of AlexSB family.

It all began three years ago, when I attended my first ITW, ITW’09. A whole new world to me, I attended it as a volunteer and attendee, I was an inside-hole organizer. I don’t remember many details about this year; all I remember is that neither my life nor the way I think goes the way it was before…

I got to know myself better through peoples’ eyes, I got to overcome my weakness points, to enhance my strength points, I got to face my worst nightmares and make them my best dreams, I got to know that people can have different characters and we all have to respect each other although we may not deal with things same way.

The year after, ITW’10 …

I enjoyed it very much, I enjoyed being there with my 2^nd family between my dearest friends, and I’ve liked the fact that we were having fun while we were doing something beneficial to many people.

        And for ITW’11, I’m expecting much more things.

You’ll never know what it is like unless you’ve been part of this whole experience…

ITW'?09, I was just an attendee in such a great event. I enjoyed every session. The speakers were really more than excellent and the topics have been chosen very well.

This event encouraged me to become one of the volunteers in IEEE AlexSB. I wanted to join this great team in organizing these events.

Fortunately, last year I became a volunteer and worked the whole year but all of this was nothing compared to the ITW. I really enjoyed working in such an event.

ITW is the biggest event in our branch and for me it was an unforgettable event. It really had changed my whole world. I had that new great experience and I got to know all these amazing friends.

I worked in the catering team for VIPS in ITWâ??10. This gave me the chance to be in contact with speakers, sponsors and VIPS. They were really very nice. This gave me the courage to deal with anyone in a position of responsibility.

I also worked in registration for the attendees. This made me friendly with most of them and I encouraged some to be volunteers and they become one of us this year.

Such event, such people and such organization made my year exceptional.
