Session Abstract: Startup Weekends are 54-hour events where tech-savvies, geeks, developers, designers and startup enthusiasts come together to share ideas, form teams, build products and launch startups.
After the great success and the launching of several startups during the Startup Weekend in Cairo (SWCairo) that took place in the American University in Cairo between April 28th and April 30th, the next "Startup Weekend" stop will be in Alexandria. This session is intended to introduce the startup enthusiasts to the entrepreneurial skill-set that will help them launch their own business during the "Startup Weekend" event.
Speaker's Biography: Mr. Omara is a 12 year veteran in Semiconductors & Integrated Circuits Design with a track record of designing & managing several successful semiconductor chips and high-tech projects for various Digital Communication Systems, mainly wireless, and Embedded Microprocessors.
Mr. Omara received his B.Sc. & M.Sc. in Electronics & Communications Engineering from the University of Alexandria, Egypt in 1999 & 2010 respectively. In 2000, being one of only 10 post-graduate students from all around the Egyptian nation, he received a Post Graduate Diploma in VLSI & Embedded Systems Design from the prestigious ITI (Information Technology Institute). He worked as a teaching assistant in the ITI before moving to Ellipsis Digital Systems (headquartered in San Diego, California) in 2001. In Ellipsis, Mr. Omara worked with a team of highly motivated entrepreneurs, graduated from MIT & Berkeley, to design a Wireless LAN multiprocessor chip. During the period from 2001 to 2004, Mr. Omara contributed to the design of more than 5 embedded microprocessors and participated in developing the company's new innovative design methodology. In 2005, Mr. Omara started his management career when he moved to Malaysia to lead SyMMiD's team to implement their Wireless PAN chip. In 2006, Mindspeed Technologies, Inc. hired Mr. Omara as a Principal Engineer & Design Lead for their Dubai Silicon Oasis site. Mr.Omara was responsible for delivering new generations of Mindspeed's Multi-Channel Synchronous Communications Controller. In December 2008, Mr. Omara co-founded Fascila Limited (U.K. Registered) and became its CEO, with a plan to relocate all the development activities to Alexandria/Egypt. Mr. Omara has 2 pending patents in the field of low-power design & implementation of wireless sensor networks.
